Grooming Your Pet Tortoise
October 26, 2007 on 11:33 am | In Grooming Articles |Most people wouldn’t even think about a tortoise being regularly groomed but honestly if you own one, it is necessary. If you own a tortoise then you’ve seen how dirty they can get. The tortoise shell is its living area. Keeping it clean is necessary to insure proper health. Besides, your tortoise really does enjoy a bath and it costs little more than time for you to provide it.
Fill the tub with a few inches of lukewarm water. It’s best not to fill it over the tortoise’s head. Allow him/her to soak for at least 15 to 20 minutes in the bath. Be sure to keep the water at a decent temperature. You don’t want it getting cold. You can use a toothbrush to scrub the tortoise shell and belly. They actually learn to love this. Don’t do it too hard, you’re not trying to crack the shell. Just gentle strokes will do the trick. You can also use the same technique on the legs and arms. Rinse the tortoise before returning it to its cage. You may also choose to towel dry it. Never use shampoos and other soaps on this pet. Your tortoise will enjoy its time in the bath and be grateful that you took the time to provide it.
